How to Season Your Hand-Dyed Fabric
Last summer I had lots of fun in the backyard dying fabric. After a few days I couldn’t let good dye go to waste so I mashed together whatever I could find quickly in my stash and dumped dye on all of it. You see, many times in my creative moments of mayhem, I have an attitude of ‘what the heck, let’s see what happens.’ So after the stuff set for a day or more I rinsed it and it became an absolute tangled wet blob that I had no desire to deal with. I was rather annoyed with it to be honest. So I just ignored it, and left it out in the garage for a season, or two, or three. Was it covered up or anything? Nope. I was really annoyed with it. I gave it occasional dirty looks over the months but that was about it, until today.
The two year old and I journeyed out into the backyard this morning and I decided I would take a look at the bucket of forgotten tangles. It was really dry, big surprise, and came apart with little effort. Now I have lovely hand-dyed cheese cloth, burlap, cord and, um, I guess you could call it a mass of random threads which could be fun felting.
