Help me be #13!

By , July 13, 2008 5:48 pm

The 13th-most-listened-to Electronic artist on Lala.com, that is. Since the new streaming music and download service, Lala.com, listed my new album before iTunes, I’ve been spending some time poking around the website. It turns out relatively few listens separate the 14th electronic artist from the 13th. All YOU have to do, gentle reader, is point your browser to my Lala.com page and click play. You can turn down the volume on your computer if you absolutely can’t stand my music, but the more plays I get, the higher I’ll be on the charts. Maybe I can even get higher than the Chemical Brothers (and maybe even Moby!), before the site gets more well-known and the popular artists start getting more plays.

I’m pretty sure Sun-Ra got his start this way, too.

My new album comes out… today?!

By , July 9, 2008 8:41 pm

Well, I thought it would take a few more weeks, but apparently three days is all it takes for Amazon MP3 and Lala to post your new album on their websites for listening (LaLa gives you the first listen for free) and purchase. iTunes, Rhapsody, and eMusic, it seems take a bit longer.

So, yeah: phreakbox v1.4: The Instrumentals is out today!!!!

Expect a full page for the album soon, including a link to purchase a physical CD copy of the product (once I approve it). But in the meantime if you want to get your (mostly) mellow electronic jazz downtempo loungecore chiptune worldbeat groove on, head over to the album on Amazon MP3 or Lala and give it a listen (and if you like it, download a track or two or the whole album). It’s very chill.

Phreakbox v1.4: The Instrumentals

Also, while at Amazon MP3 or Lala (and soon iTunes and Rhapsody) you may notice another single I’ve recently released, “The Flying House of Loreto”.

The Flying House of Loreto

This is a track I did a little while back which has become very popular on the net (to date this year, it’s been downloaded over 16,000 times from my website). If you like, give it a listen and a download too. It may just give you the inspiration you need to do whatever it is you need to do today (heck, I mean, if a house can fly anything is pretty much possible). Jackie did the cover design for the single, incorporating one of her recent fiber art pieces… I’ve gotten a lot of good feedback on that.

And, as always, if you haven’t gotten your daily dose of Robot Love recently, you can download my first CD on iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon MP3 and a number of other places around the net.

We’ve got YourTube right here!

We just created our very own YouTube Channel. At the moment it mostly just has my animation and video projects. If you haven’t seen them before, though, be sure to check them out (my personal favorite is still “Peas Grow There” because it’s just so stupid, but you are free to disagree). Look for new stuff posted in the future!

Meet Super Toilet!

By , June 22, 2008 1:51 pm

Super Toilet is a character created by our son and his friends in Kindergarten. To date, our son has written three Super Toilet adventure books (you can read the second one here) and Super Toilet will also soon be starring in his own video game. So it seemed fitting that he should have his own theme song, explaining what he’s all about.

Super Toilet (Theme)

Lyric:
Flying through the sky
He’s a very super guy
But he’s not really a guy
He’s a toilet

When evil’s all around,
He’ll protect the town
From anyone around
Who would spoil it.

When Evil Toilet or Mister Poop
Or Mini-Man or Jake-O plan
A devilish plot,
He can foil it.

With his friends Codo,
Bird, Wolf, and a weed-eater,
He is the one called
SUPER TOILET!

Wowsers, Inspector Gadget! A review!

By , June 19, 2008 7:00 pm

Seven-and-a-half years after I release the darn thing, the reviews are in! And they (well, it) are (is) glowing. I’m not sure who undomondo is, but they really like my Robot Love CD. Which makes them very cool in my book. Actually, since I think they really managed to articulate what I was trying to do with that album better than I ever could, I’ll post the entire review here (click on more). I don’t think my mom wrote it… never can tell with these Internets, though. Continue reading 'Wowsers, Inspector Gadget! A review!'»

Car Wreck! (It’s a new song, not an actual event)

By , June 1, 2008 8:03 pm

This new song is a collaboration with the eminent 1-2-Many, who is a fixture on the KVRaudio.com website, particularly in their monthly song contests. Collaboration may be pushing it a bit because all I really did on this one was write some words and sing them — he did all the music writing and production, so it was quite a nice break for me. I think it came out really well.

Capsule Movie Reviews!

By , May 26, 2008 9:24 pm

Time for some extremely brief movie reviews of some movies we’ve seen recently!

Enchanted: Clumsy “Howard the Duck” remake. The void between dimensions was portrayed realistically, however.

Cloverfield: Not so much a true monster movie as a disaster movie with a giant monster running around in it. Chomp!

Lars and the Real Girl: Funny and sweet. Recommended.

The Water Horse: Nice use of the Wilhelm Scream.

The Thief Lord: A very nice film. I enjoyed the story and the Venice setting. Didn’t hold the kids’ interest, however.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: No. Just… no. Never again!

Juno: Way overhyped. “Knocked Up” was much funnier. Honest to ‘blog.

The Darjeeling Limited: We both really liked this. Funny and poignant. Skip the brief Part I webisode, however, unless you want to be scarred for life by the truly frightening sight of Natalie Portman’s ribs.

Stargate – The Ark of Truth: Awesome, awesome, awesome! Makes you wonder what Stargate SG-1 could have been if they could have upped the action (and the violence) just a little bit.

Becoming Jane: The rare chick flick where (spoiler alert!) the girl doesn’t get the guy (or any guy) in the end.

Surf’s Up: Everyone liked this. Amazing animation effects and truly funny characters. The Dude as a penguin… brilliant!

Dan in Real Life: Steve Carell combines his two characters (Michael Scott and The 40-Year-Old virgin) and is very funny, though still not as funny as Juliette Binoche.

Marilyn Hotchkiss Ballroom Dancing and Charm School: A truly interesting film. Probably one of my top three favorite films about the healing power of dance (“Strictly Ballroom”, and “Shall We Dance” – the original Japenese version – being the other two).

Superbad: A true guy flick. Funny (if you’re a guy).

Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium: Pretty unremarkable, actually.

Mr. Bean’s Holiday: I really enjoyed this, as did the kids, despite the fact that Mr. Bean isn’t a taste I’ve fully acquired.

The Holiday: Why, Jack Black. Why? I thought I might actually like this movie, but it was sheer torture. Honest to ‘blog, torture.

Where’s my music?!

By , April 24, 2008 7:47 pm

…just because I couldn’t bear to date myself by naming a post “I want my MP3!”.

Anyhoo, my music can be found on my PODCAST (okay, so it’s just another weblog, but you can subscribe to it via iTunes or some other podcastrator program). There you can get my new tunes as well as old favorites before anyone else does. To date, I’ve posted 74 songs there. So if your mp3 player is running on fumes, and you’re not sick of terrible mixed metaphors, you can find plenty of fodder there.
