It was time to update the ol’ blog, and here we are: updated to WordPress 2.7, updated the Flickr plugin, and installed a nice shiny new theme that should showcase Jackie’s art a lot better.

Still to come: theme tweaks, an expanded ‘blogroll, and maybe even that swanky Lightbox image viewer. We’ll see!

Please leave us feedback to let us know how you like it!

UPDATE: Lightbox seems to be working for the most part. For example, here’s the first two portraits I ever did, for the the portrait class I’m taking right now. If you click on either, the full-size image will appear:

Oh sure, he looks cute, cuddly with his extra puffy, super soft, long fur. He happily greets anyone who comes along with little kitty chirps and offers his tail for petting to any visitor. But don’t let it fool you! Usually in the dead of night, while people sleep peacefully, he strikes. He chomps, never eating, just chomps with his rather sharp kitty teeth any plastic bag and it’s contents. Leaving behind zillions of little puncture holes in his path of destruction.

Since I store many of my fiber items zip storage bags I have had many of them destroyed. He’s gotten rather bold lately as well, striking right in front of me as I work on a project or watch a movie with the family. He even eyed my one of my projects once, then I really threatened his existance (with words and tone of voice) and he reconsidered.

But with his recent rampage of attacks against defenseless fiber and plastic, I spent the last two days resorting and organizing and cleaning the studio space. I would have been done with another project otherwise, but would have had a lot more kitty punctured items to deal with. So most everything is in a box or drawer and labeled. Hopefully that will keep me organized and help motivate me put stuff away. Otherwise the Enforcer will have to remind me and it won’t be pretty.

With the completion of Expo a few weeks ago I made an unplanned visit to the underside of a rock and hid there. Yes, there is a part of me that fully embraces the stereotype of the moody artist and runs with it. That funk is on it’s way out with the clearing and cleaning of the corner of our family room to make way for a temporary work space for me. I washed (yes, washed) the brick wall, the mantel, nick-nacks, and some furniture. Taught Xander how to vacuum. I have asthma pretty bad and in order to work in this space some extremely big time cleaning was in order. But it paid off. Here’s a picture from yesterday morning. There’s Jonas enjoying some morning Disney and pancakes. No, he is not always that calm.

I have some big things I am working on for a show in November and a Weird Michigan Challenge that I issued to my group. Nothing I can share yet, but considering both of these deadlines are approaching at lightening speed, I hope to have them done soon.

One very cool aspect of working downstairs are the paintings that Victor’s grandmother painted hanging on the walls. She was an artist and mystic. This one is called The Tightrope Walker.

Having a six year old with a fractured foot is a lot of work for those around him. Except for the two year old, he thinks his big brother is a sitting duck waiting to be whacked and wrestled with. So yes, we have had little time to do anything creative in this house. I have two deadlines coming at the end of the month and I am a little stressed about meeting them. Not much left to do, just no time to do them. Today I will be venturing to Target to get some activity and puzzle books for the Xanman. Even video games are starting to bore him.

This week almost all fiber work has taken a backseat to parent duties. Coupled with the last week of kindergarten (which is way busier than anyone would think), our six year old took a tumble off a foot stool and hurt his foot. He was trying to reach the prized snack food that I stashed up high to keep him and his brother from eating it all in one sitting. After he tried repeatedly over the next 12 hours to walk on his foot but failed due to lots of pain, I took him to urgent care. Thanks to Grandma for watching the other one all day today. Still don’t know whether his foot is broken, fractured, sprained, or bruised. He sees a specialist next week for that determination. But in the mean time he is in an aircast. Sounds cool doesn’t it? It kind of is, so much so that I told him we could add some stuff to it to make it look like a robot boot. Xander, being the six year old boy that he is, thought this idea was a really good one.

So tomorrow, instead of going to the U-Sew store to put a felting machine on layaway to lock in the price before it goes up, I will be embellishing my son’s aircast.

So just in case any of the few of you who actually read our blog were wondering why we haven’t posted lately, now you know why. I promise to share Robo-Boot with you when it is completed.
